Goodbye 2014, Hello 2015 – End of the year survey

First of all; Happy New Year, everyone!

I came on my WordPress dashboard for the first time in way too long and saw many posts about the year-end recap. I stumbled upon this one by Scribble & Wanderlust, called the 2014 End of Year Book Survey. After further “investigating”, I found out this is a annual thing hosted by The Perpetual Page-Turner. The concept is so awesome that I just had to do it myself. So here you have it, my reading life in 2014: Continue reading

Eleanor was right. She never looked nice. She looked like art, and art wasn’t supposed to look nice; it was supposed to make you feel something.

As promised, I jumped right into Eleanor & Park after I finished writing the review for Fangirl. The book recently got released here in Norway, so I thought why not? The book is often praised as the new Romeo & Juliet, which I must say, made me quite interested. Eleanor & Park is about, well the title says it all, Eleanor and Park, who first meet each other in August 1986, on a school bus. Park is a half Korean and half Irish-American boy, who loves comic books and music. Eleanor is the new girl who suddenly shows up and gets bullied by mostly the whole school. Park is the one to offer a seat next to his on the bus on her first day, and this is what leads to the lovely story between these two, dare I say it, star-crossed lovers.

“Underneath this veneer of slightly crazy and mildly socially retarded, I’m a complete disaster.”

just finish reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell a couple of hours ago, and before I dive into Eleanor & Park, I thought I should write the review first. So Fangirl is about Cath, a young infamous fanfiction author who loves the Simon Snow series, which is a homage to the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. Her love for the series led her to write Simon/Baz fanfics which has in turn led her to become one of the leading fanfiction writers in “the fandom” community. In the beginning of the book, Cath starts her first year in college, without her twin sister, Wren, with whom she has shared everything with the last eighteen years. Wren is all about being the typical freshman; parties, boys, drinking, and new people. When Wren refused to be Cath’s roommate, Cath is forced to share room with a stranger. Her roommate, Reagan, is nothing like her. She isn’t a Simon Snow fanatic, she’s rather tough and outgoing. This leads Cath to worry. Will she make it without Wren? Will she even be able to finish Carry On, Simon before the release of the last Simon Snow book?
